Updates from the President's Desk
November 2026, St. Vincent de Paul of Crook County News
We are proud that our fundraising efforts are beginning to pay off. We still have a way to go but are off to a good start. We have a committed group of volunteers making plans for some fundraising fun. So, check our Facebook page and here, our webpage, often, to see what we come up with next! I also want to answer a question that we’ve been asked recently: Yes, we are open on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2026. Our Wednesday hours are 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and we look forward to seeing our guests on that Wednesday.
So, November! Almost the end of the year! It’s time to honor veterans, who have given so much for our freedoms. Right here in here in Prineville, there are several ways to recognize the sacrifices made by our brave men and women: **Participate in Operation Green Light. The idea is to turn on a green light at night, whether it’s a porch light or inside, for several days leading up to Veteran’s Day. The green is meant to be a symbol of hope, renewal and well-being; a lovely way to honor our Vets. **Join the community along Fourth Street from Main to Elm Street and watch the parade at 11:00 a.m., then join-in for a spaghetti lunch afterward. **Enjoy the flags placed in town, each honoring one of our own veterans. AND **Love and honor your own vets - those among your own family and friends.
In addition, throughout this month, I’m asking you to please, pray for our “guests” in the pantry, whether they come to us for a supplemental food box or some kind of financial assistance. Our top priority for emergency services is always families who have children in the home, but we are not limited to families. Seniors and others sometimes seriously need assistance, too.
A family I have been thinking about recently is a single mom with a disabled child. Rent was a little over $1,700 per month. She was unemployed; she had lost her job recently but was looking for a new job. She was behind on rent with an eviction notice. Although this mom was able to secure $500 with another agency was short about $550. After interviewing her and determining that we were able to help her at that time, she and her child were able to stay in their home.
These are the people we help.
The pantry is not yet “out of the woods” financially.
And this is why we come back, time and again, asking you that if you have any extra, please consider a monetary donation to St. Vincent de Paul, Crook County, thereby helping us help our neighbors in need.
If so, you can use the QR code on this website, mail a donation to PO BOX 545; Prineville, OR 97754 or if you want to drop by, our address is 935 NW Madras Hwy, Prineville.
Blessings,
Rita McLean Malone, President
