St Vincent de Paul of Crook County – October News

Would you consider a monetary donation to St. Vincent de Paul of Crook County? We need help funding emergency services to our guests, many of whom, like the family above, have immediate needs.

October, 2026 -- Here we are, closing the month of October. I for one am wondering what Winter will bring. Will there be the snowpack we so badly need? Will there be lots of fun with the kids making snow men and snow women? Or will it be cold and dry?

Whatever winter hands us, we at St. Vincent de Paul, Crook County will do our best to be ready. The next few months, for many of us, will involve family gatherings, big celebratory meals, presents, and special times of gratitude, making cherished memories. Our pantry is dedicated to help each of our guests in the pantry, as we can.

NeighborImpact in Redmond is the source of most of our food. We are grateful to local grocery stores such as Wagner’s IGA, Ericksons Market, Rays Food Market each who generously offer food to our pantry, as does Trader Joe’s, just for the price of picking up the donations every week. Several local Churches donate funds that help power the Emergency Services. Then, we in turn assist our neighbors in need. We also rely on local individuals and businesses to donate funds and we search for grants.

Sadly, at the present time, we are struggling; there are fewer funds coming in than going out. Recently I had a call from a family who could not pay their power bill and were struggling to find assistance. The temperatures are low at night and will get lower as winter sets in. This family had come into the pantry the week before, but our funds were so low, we had had to suspend assistance, temporarily. In this case, there are two children and one on the way. One of the parents of these children is seriously ill and needs care as well as on-going medical treatments. My prayer is that they can find some help in the suggestions I gave them. My Dear Supporters, this is a heart-breaking situation, but we cannot offer what we do not have. I know our financial situation is not permanent, and we as I write, we are doing our best to bring in more donations and are planning fundraisers. But right now, as the need is becoming greater, we don’t have the ability to help.
